Marina of Ponta Delgada
The Marina of Ponta Delgada is the maritime heart of the capital of São Miguel and is part of the modern Portas do Mar complex, which back in the day completely revamped the city's waterfront. It's a very lively area that holds a good chunk of Ponta Delgada's dining and entertainment scene, plus a shopping area with stores selling accessories and crafts typical of the Azores.
Beyond the atmosphere, it's an active recreational marina, an important base for sailors crossing the North Atlantic, which gives it that feel of a living port. Right by the boardwalk there's also an ocean natural pool, perfect for a swim if you feel like cooling off without leaving the city.
In this part of the harbor, many of the activities most chosen by people visiting São Miguel get underway, such as swimming with dolphins, whale watching, or taking a boat trip along the south coast of São Miguel.
If you're staying in Ponta Delgada, it's a near-mandatory stop to enjoy the local cuisine, especially fish and seafood. At night the atmosphere really comes alive, and it's the moment when both tourists and locals gather here to wrap up the day.
