Ponta do Arnel Viewpoint and Arnel Lighthouse
The Ponta do Arnel Viewpoint and the Arnel Lighthouse are two of the most prominent points of interest on São Miguel Island. Located on the east coast of the island, they represent a popular spot in the Nordeste municipality, especially the viewpoint, due to its accessibility.
The Ponta do Arnel Viewpoint is a viewpoint from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Arnel Lighthouse, Porto do Nordeste, and the impressive coastal cliffs. Although the Arnel Lighthouse can also be seen from Vista dos Barcos Viewpoint, Miradouro da Ponta do Arnel offers the closest view.
Indeed, this viewpoint is very popular for its lighthouse, a landmark for whale watching near the coast. Additionally, at dusk, this place becomes a meeting point for locals, allowing you to immerse yourself in local life.
Lastly, to reach the Arnel Lighthouse, there's a small asphalt road. However, we recommend caution as it's not easily accessible. The slope is quite steep and may be challenging to ascend with some cars. But don't worry, if you're not up for it, you can park your car a bit further from the lighthouse and walk the rest of the way.
